Our History

Professor Colette McKay is an internationally renowned hearing researcher who saw the potential of fNIRS technology to help babies and young children with hearing loss and language delay. ​Her multi-disciplinary team at the Bionics Institute’s fNIRS Hearing Research Laboratory, including audiologists, software and systems engineers and data scientists, developed the technology behind EarGenie® over more than 10 years. The research group included the EarGenie founding team (Colette McKay, Julia Wunderlich, Gautam Balasubramanian, and Darren Mao).

EarGenie Pty Ltd was established in 2025 to commercialise the EarGenie hearing assessment system so that infants with hearing loss can benefit from improved early intervention.
